With a bike for sale on BikePoint I am getting emails from dudes who want to buy my bike, but only via PayPal and a courier will collect it. Usually they are overseas, on a ship etc. which is why they will use a courier.

there are ways to beat the scammers at their own games
the reason they can claim they bike isnt delivered is because you've made a big mistake!
you've released the bike to an unregisted courier company.
in the terms and conditions of paypal it states that you must used registered, trackable postage with signature at departure and arrival.
this is the loop hole the catch you on.
the way you catch the scammers is as follows:
sell the bike to them,
collect the money
dump it straight into your bank account and take it out as cash as soon as possible.
organise for there courier to pick up the bike.
do not release the bike to the courier unless it is the company stated by the buyer, and it is a registered courier service..
they will not send an official courier, and they cannot claim for a refund because you have forfilled your duties as a responsible seller.
and If you definitely want to put a nail in there coffin, do not release the bike untill 5days after money has cleared... this means they have to go through the normal mediated paypal dispute where you can argue your case and win if they still want to dispute it.
if you do you research, it is very easy to scam the scammer...
I suggest you research it yourself though incase Iv missed any steps...
a mate on the 125ccsportsbike forums did this, he got to keep his mito and the cash!
you need to also only make sure youve got funds by visiting paypal.com...
dont click links!
you will log into their site if you do, and then you will not only send the item without getting any money...
they will then have all your credit card/paypal details!
I love option three. It's so simple.
Yet another one tonight. Offered $52,000, not the $5,200 asking price. "He" appreciated me pointing this out but still wants to pay $52k by PayPal.
Just read the seller protection info. The very first line stipulates that the sale had to be via any eBay site. This means that sales via any other site are not protected and therefore the vendor is exposed.
im advertising my bike on bikesales as well. so far i have had 8 interested parties with all of them currently being offshore. funny that. all wanting to use pay pal cause they cant get internet access to do money tranfer. (forgot they use the internet to access their e-mail). just got another e-mail exactly the same as one before same words and everything. event the scammers are getting lazy
Best to string these scammers along for as long as possible, that ties up their resources, which is 1 trainee scammer in front of a PC at a internet cafe in Lagos Nigeria. The more everyone did that the less likely they are to find some unsuspecting seller to scam. As these days people are net savvy enough to work out it's a scam, anyone who replies is treated as a bite. Just so you can ask them to send YOU the money via Western Union(not near your house), if they are stupid enough to to that the $$$$ are yours. Another scam is the overpayment scam, where much more is offered that the asking price you are asked to refund some $$$ minus something 'for your trouble'. They usualy pay with a overseas cheque, the bank tempory credits you with the money, you forward to the scammer, then the bank comes back and says the cheque is a fake and takes the original amount back. Meanwhile you will have knocked back several serious local enquiries.
