I've noticed there are already a few of us women riders on here already, so thought to post up a topic where we can post what we ride, and why we ride :)

My name is Ruth and I contribute to Rapid's test bikes section on occasion.

I love my V twins and adore everything about being on two wheels. Currently ride a 1997 VTR1000f. I'm always up for a ride, night or day - road or track. I'm also a big advocate for more women getting on two wheels.

Here is my storm and I putting along at Putty Road.

Hello all, I have a 96 Suzuki GSXR750 with 43000kms, it developed a horrible noise coming from the clutch/front sprocket cover. I pulled the clutch pivot out and it was cactus so I bought a new one and put that back in, and whilst much better once you get into city riding (doesn't happen much around here), the noise returns and sounds alot like something is caught in the sprocket I've adjusted the load on the pivot to what I think it should be, but maybe there is a tad too much pressure and once hot is just moving the shaft off the pivot? Anyone info from someone who may have had a similar problem would be great.
Cheers Dave

I picked up a 2003 Cagiva Mito evoII 125 for $2500 last last year and took it for my first trackday. I managed to run only 4 seconds slower than my oldman on his R1, I figured I could crack the 2minute mark pretty easily with just a new set of tires (I was running old bald touring tyres that only passed scrutineering because the bloke was nice)
Then It occurred to me that If I could get the Mito to brake much harder, turn fast, accelerate more rapidly and hit a higher top speed that I could run with the big-boys in the fast group even with my novice skills.

So I had the motivation, all I needed was an excuse

30minutes later while running a hot lap, I went around the outside of an 1198S at turn two, lent her over too far, dug the foot peg into the track and top a trip into the gravel at 150. ouch...

Sounds to me like an excuse for a project...

It had to be a 2T, The powerband is like a drug. So I decided to build a 2T supermono

The aim of the bike was to build a bike for less than a 5 year old 600cc bike ($7000)The bike needs to be able to round up a stock 600 on a big track like Phillip Island, and I wanted to give a 1000cc bike a run for its money on a tighter track like Broadford.

2 weeks later when I could walk without looking like Id crapped my dax I started making phone calls and found a bloke in Newcastle who knew his 2T, he was refered to me by Steve from Two Stroke Shop.

So far during my daily ebay searches Iv found the following bits, at very cheap prices to keep the bike within budget.

I have two sets of tyres for my R1. Michelin Power 1 B, and a set of Pirelli Diablo track day slicks.

There seems to be a varying range of pressures quoted for track use and whether this is measured hot or cold.

So far I have for the Michelins 30 front 28 rear measured hot and for the Pirellis 28 front 22 rear measured hot ( which seems incredibly low, but I have not had any slick exposure/experience)

Any advice on both?

G'day,

I recently bought a 2000 XJR1300 SP which has a 4-2-1 exhaust with a tired old Magnum can. I believe the headers are original - a bit rusty - and the aftermarket bits are the 2-into-1 adapter and the slip-on. Any recommendations on a good full system (with associated air filter/carb mods) to suit the XJR? I'd probably like to take it back to a 4-into-2 setup but am open to all suggestions. I haven't been able to find much online except for slip-ons like Staintune, Yoshi etc. Am I best maybe to just get the existing headers re-chromed and go from there? I'm a bit of a newby when it comes to modding bikes but I'd just like to freshen it up a bit with some improved engine performance, braided lines, new shocks & fork internals etc. Any recommendations on cost effective suspension mods are also welcome - this model has the old Ohlins non-fully-adjustable shocks.

Thanks,

Nokka

Knee Down Magazine
A magazine purely dedicated to the racetrack enthusiast. The first of its kind in the world, Knee Down Magazine will fill a gap in motorcycle publishing by giving ride day punters, riding school enthusiasts and road racers a magazine focussed entirely on track days, education, club & National road racing, racetracks, set up tips, 'how to' guides from experts in the field and help beginners get started in this growing segment of motorcycling.

Police presence is getting higher and higher on our roads as speed limits drop and sportsbikes become even more powerful and better handling. As a result, riders are adapting to the modern version of a 'Sunday Scratch' – attending track days. And track days require preparation and advise. Knee Down Magazine will help provide this while creating a community of track enthusiasts. Sections like On Any Track Day gives punters the chance to have their picture in the magazine, The Gear showcases all of the latest in safety riding gear and equipment including tyres, brakes, suspension and crash protection. There is a Getting Started section and plenty of features on education. There is also a lot of content for the experts, with tests of track bikes from ride day machines to the current MotoGP, World Superbikes and Supersport Machines. A highly technical content on set-up and track tips is handled by two times World Champion Andrew Pitt, suspension experts Terry Hay and Jim Gunn, riding coach Steve Brouggy, and all editorial staff are active racers and ride day enthusiasts.

Mike commented – “On Sunday, the first crash in Race 2, I clipped Kev's back tyre after I made a pass on Dylan Mavin into the very fast turn one and hit the deck, luckily without too much damage. As for the second crash in Race 3, I started from the rear of grid due to the progressive grid at the AFX-SBK Championships, and in 3 laps I made my way to fifth position but on the fourth lap I tucked the front tyre in the middle of the turn 9 hairpin”.

Sunday's results were interesting, I felt disappointed that I had crashed in two consecutive races. However, after speaking with Steve and Adam from the California Superbike School, I was very pleased that I was able to analyse the crashes and come up with positive conclusions. I have taken mental notes to ensure that I am more aware of those scenarios in the future, which in turn, will reduce the possibility of making those same mistakes again”.
