BAZZAZ POWER!

Project ZX-10R has been fitted with a Bazzaz Tuner thanks to Ammar Bazzaz himself.

With the engine work complete, the Racefit exhaust fitted and all the chassis work done, the final step in completing our awesome Project ZX-10R is the fitment of the Bazzaz Z-Fi Traction Control and Quickshifter unit. Last issue we showed you the parts that come with the kit and over the break Tim managed to head in to Rapid HQ to fit the unit for us.

STAGE NINE, BAZZAZ Z-Fi TRACTION CONTROL AND QUICKSHIFTER

Bazzaz Performance is not so we'll known in Australia yet, however, in the tough world of AMA Superbike Bazzaz have been at the forefront of EFI tuning since 1997. Owner, Ammar Bazzaz, worked for Yoshimura R&D for six-years before starting Bazzaz Performance, helping Mat Mladin to his first three AMA crowns.
The Bazzaz Z-Fi TC & QS unit is a high-tech and affordable interceptor. Prices are yet to be announced in Australia, however Mat Mladin Imports will be bringing the units in to the country.
Fitting the unit takes a full day with no distractions but it is a lot less complicated than the wiring loom suggests. It is basically plug and play and the instructions are clear and the diagrams and photographs a good help. Our good buddy Tim Holland fitted the system for us and reported no dramas. Once he stripped the tank, rear cowl and upper fairing off the bike he had full access to the loom. The Bazzaz loom runs from back to front but beware that in the instruction the 'Left Side' of the bike is the left side when standing in front of the bike and looking at the headlight - not sitting on the bike facing forward.
The loom intercepts the connectors at the PRIMARY INJECTORS, SECONDARY INJECTORS, TPS, SPEED SENSOR, RPM SENSOR, NEUTRAL SENSOR, ECU and power/earth cables tap existing sources. Once the loom was connected, Tim replaced the airbox and fitted the map and TC switch to the left handlebar. The quickshifter went on next (unfortunately this only works in race shift pattern) then Tim dressed the bike, taking care not to crush the new loom or upper injector connectors - the ZX-10R is so compact even a few wires can make life hard.
With the bike back together Tim fired the beast up and went for a spin to check the operation of the quickshifter - all fine. Unfortunately we only have Apple Mac's at Rapid HQ so can't check out the Bazzaz software. Regardless, we're off to see Jamie Bezzina at S&R Pro in Penrith, the official Bazzaz tuner in Sydney, to have the bike remapped. Sadly, Project ZX-10R will be off to new owners after that. Goddamn it - we always have to give our bikes back...
