Hey Flipped freestylers, the last month has been crazy in this awesome little
country we call home. The level has also stepped up in our Bro's and Cuz's
country of NZ.
Quite a few more events have happened where they've included road bike
freestyle into their busy schedule

After unfortunately breaking my pinky finger in three places in a stupid accident
involving another stunt rider and a hotel bedroom door, I had to get my good
friend and teammate Cam Ambridge to fill in for me at the Perth Motorcycle and
Scooter Show.
Cam rode my Honda 600RR throughout the three day event and had no
problems adjusting from his Honda 929. In reality, he was doing crazy circles
and parking nasty 180 stoppies on a safety barrier within 60 seconds of jumping
on the 600. The conditions weren't the best for Cam with a few wet sessions
making his shows that little bit more interesting and testing his skill level, but as
a true professional it didn't even faze him. I decided to give commentating a go
for the first time and had a ball. I'd always thought it would be a hard job to do
but found it was a piece of cake and thoroughly enjoyed it. |

| TEAM CUNNINGSTUNTS
Our own Rapid columnist Corey and the lads from Team Cunningstunts put on
another Stuntskills day at Oran Park in Sydney. The rollup wasn't as big as the
usual stunt practice turnout, which is pretty hard to understand considering the
enthusiasm of Aussie stunters of late.
El Sammo was the standout with his continual efforts in tipping in to Highchair
Circles. He crashed out about 20 times throughout the day but managed to
do the trick a number of times. A big congrats El Sammo, not only for doing
Australia's first Highchair Circles, but for having the big set of balls to keep trying
until you got it nailed.
Willis was hard at it doing some mighty fine long No-Handers as well as
Highchairs stoppies that saw him go over the bars, but in style.
SCR managed to drag his sorry arse away from his beer and pet goat to
go stunting. His day didn't last long after he dropped his R6, resulting in him
returning to his other favorite pastime . drinking.
Boxer was there doing some nice slow wheelies and Uncle was at his best
pulling off some nasty bar tricks.
As much as Corey's strict safety gear rules pissed many stunters off, it paid
off well with no injuries. That just goes to show that safety gear is a must, and as
much as it's uncomfortable - it prevents the bones from snapping! |
| LUKEY LUKE - LOCAL HERO

Team, and although my pinky was still broken and in a cast I had to throw my
leg over my Honda 954 to keep the fans happy. Cam couldn't make it to this
round so we called upon our good mate and one of Oz's top stunters Mr Lukey
Luke from Melbourne to fill in for him. This was the first time that Lukey has
performed with us and it was the biggest crowd he'd ever stunted in front of.
Once he broke through his nervous first show, Lukey killed it and was busting
out all types of circles in front of the 60,000 spectators. I had troubles hanging
on so I left all the energetic moves and tricks for Lukey to blow the Melbournians
minds with. I look forward to the next show with young Lukey; then I can show
the kid a few moves! |
| COASTAL GOLD
The Two Wheeled Extravaganza on the Gold Coast was on the same weekend
as Sandown. El Sammo and Jay Willis were hired to come and do stunt demo's
over the two days. Although the area they were provided was no bigger than the
average driveway, they both still managed to make the crowd cheer for more. |
| ROCKINTOBER
The month of October is a crazy month for us. No matter what state you're
in, keep an eye out for the CAPA Stunt team. We perform at Bathurst, then
straight down to Phillip Island for MotoGP (Go Casey!), then straight back to the
Gold Coast for Indy, then over to Perth the following weekend for the Northam
Motorcycle fest, and then back to Sydney for the Sydney Motorcycle Expo. If
you go to any of those events, be sure to drop in and say hi. |
| DEAR MATT
Lately I've been receiving lots of emails from people asking what stunt bike
is the best and which one they should get? There is no right or wrong bike to
for stuntriding. Obviously, a lot of people like the Honda F4i 600 due to their
comfortable riding position, remarkably doughy throttle response, and the
weight. In saying that, it also depends on your size and weight. At the end of
the day, it comes down to personal preference. Just remember - never give up.
Practice is the whole key to becoming a good stunter. |
| SYDNEY STUNTSKILLS
Stay tuned to Flipped and www.ozstuntbikes.com for info on the next Stuntskills
day, which is coming up at the end of October in Sydney. They are the best
place to learn wheelies in a safe and fun environment. The regular stunters there
are a top bunch of guys and girls, and are willing to help anyway they can.
Stunt it up people. And as a weird and wise man once said to me .
you love it.Matt Mingay |
